# Weiss Report > [!abstract] 🏛️ Official government report > **Issued by:** Special Counsel [[David Weiss]], [[Department of Justice]] · **Legal basis:** 28 C.F.R. § 600.8(c) · **Released:** January 13, 2025 The final report of the special counsel who prosecuted [[Hunter Biden]] — a short report, 27 pages, accompanied by hundreds of pages of court filings. ## What it says Weiss's prosecutions produced a 2024 jury conviction on three felony gun charges and a guilty plea to federal tax crimes, before [[Joe Biden]]'s December 1, 2024 pardon wiped both out. The report's main purpose is to answer the pardon statement, in which the president said his son had been singled out by "raw politics." Weiss responded: "Other presidents have pardoned family members, but in doing so, none have taken the occasion as an opportunity to malign the public servants at the Department of Justice based solely on false accusations." He noted that eight judges across numerous courts had rejected claims of selective or vindictive prosecution, and indicated that further charges had been under consideration when the pardon ended the matter. ## How it is cited The right cites it as proof the Biden pardon covered real crimes. It is also an unusual use of the form: a prosecutor using an official report to defend his office against the sitting president whose Attorney General appointed him special counsel. ## See Also - [[David Weiss]] · [[Hunter Biden]] · [[Special Counsel]] · [[Hur Report]] · [[Reports Hub]]
