# Gas Light
Patrick Hamilton's 1938 stage thriller (filmed 1940 and, canonically, 1944 with Ingrid Bergman) in which a husband manipulates his wife into doubting her own perceptions — dimming the gas lights and denying it — to conceal his crimes. The source of the term [[Gaslighting]]: the rare case of a psychological-abuse concept, and a disinformation-lexicon staple, named for a work of fiction.
