# U.S. Capitol Statuary Hall Confederate Figures
The National Statuary Hall Collection lets each state place two statues in the U.S. Capitol. Several Southern states historically used those slots to honor Confederate figures — including [[Robert E. Lee]] (Virginia), [[Jefferson Davis]] and [[Alexander Stephens]] (the Confederacy's president and vice president), and others. Since 2020, states have begun swapping them out: Virginia replaced its Lee statue with civil-rights pioneer Barbara Johns. The replacements proceed state by state, making this a slow, federalism-bound front of the removal wave rather than a single decision.
This is a Tier-2 stub.
