# Mississippi State Flag
From 1894 until 2020, Mississippi's state flag carried the [[Confederate Battle Flag]] emblem in its canton — the last U.S. state flag to do so. A 2001 referendum kept the old design, but in the wake of the George Floyd protests the legislature voted in June 2020 to retire it; voters then approved the replacement "New Magnolia" flag. Mississippi is the clearest case of a state flag finally shedding Confederate imagery under 2020 pressure.
This is a Tier-3 stub.
