# The Diversity Myth
A 1995 book co-authored by [[David Sacks]] and [[Peter Thiel]], based on their experiences as students at Stanford University. The book argues that multiculturalism and political correctness had created an atmosphere of intolerance on campus, undermining academic freedom and intellectual diversity.
## Origin: The Stanford Review
Both Sacks and Thiel were involved with *The Stanford Review*, a conservative student newspaper Thiel co-founded in 1987 (modeled on the *Dartmouth Review*). The Review was a deliberate counter-institution to Stanford's liberal mainstream, and it became the crucible for the Thiel-Sacks ideological partnership.
The Stanford Review pipeline is one of the earliest nodes in the network that eventually became the [[PayPal Mafia]]: Thiel and Sacks met through this conservative campus ecosystem, then founded PayPal together, then spun out into the defense tech and political influence network documented throughout this KB.
## Ideological Significance
*The Diversity Myth* is the foundational text of the Thiel-Sacks worldview: that elite institutions have been captured by ideological conformity, and that true innovation requires breaking free from institutional control. This thesis runs through:
- Thiel's [[Thiel Fellowship]] (skip college entirely)
- Sacks' anti-woke positioning on the [[All-In Podcast]]
- The broader defense tech movement's hostility to Pentagon bureaucracy
- The DOGE agenda of dismantling government institutions
