# Siege
A compilation of newsletters written by **James Mason** between 1980 and 1986, published as a book in 2003, and subsequently adopted as the **operational manual for 21st-century accelerationist neo-Nazism**. Where [[The Turner Diaries]] is the white supremacist movement's Bible, *Siege* is its most dangerous tactical document — the text that argues organized white nationalism is a dead end and that only **uncoordinated, individual acts of terrorist violence** can accelerate the collapse of the existing order.
## Origin and Publication
Mason was a young member of [[George Lincoln Rockwell]]'s [[American Nazi Party]] and later the National Socialist Liberation Front (NSLF). His newsletters, published under the title *SIEGE*, represented a systematic break with organized neo-Nazism. Mason argued that the movement's political organizations — the ANP, the [[National Alliance]], the Klan — were failures, riddled with informants, incapable of mass appeal, and structurally unable to achieve their stated goals.
The newsletters were compiled into book form in 2003 by a small press. For years the text circulated in limited numbers through the WN underground. Its explosion into wider influence came in the mid-2010s through internet distribution and the [[Atomwaffen Division]].
## Core Argument
Mason's thesis is accelerationist in the purest sense:
**1. The System cannot be reformed or infiltrated.** Political parties, elections, protests, and public advocacy are wastes of time. The System (American democratic governance) is designed to absorb and neutralize opposition from within.
**2. The System must be collapsed, not captured.** Rather than building organizations that the state can infiltrate and destroy, individuals should commit acts of violence designed to destabilize the social order and accelerate its collapse. Chaos is the goal — not victory within the existing framework but the destruction of the framework itself.
**3. Charles Manson as model.** Mason's most distinctive and disturbing intellectual move was his embrace of **Charles Manson** as a revolutionary figure. Mason corresponded with Manson in prison and argued that Manson understood — better than any white nationalist leader — that American society could be collapsed through strategic violence designed to provoke racial conflict. Manson's "Helter Skelter" concept (provoking a race war through murders blamed on Black Americans) was, in Mason's reading, the correct strategic template.
**4. Lone wolves over organizations.** Anticipating and extending the logic of [[Leaderless Resistance]], Mason argued that individual actors operating without coordination are both more effective and harder for law enforcement to prevent than organized cells.
## The Atomwaffen Adoption
In the mid-2010s, *Siege* was adopted as the central text of the [[Atomwaffen Division]] (AWD) — a neo-Nazi accelerationist group founded around 2015–2016. AWD members were required to read the text, and the phrase **"Read Siege"** became both a meme and a recruitment slogan across far-right online spaces (4chan, [[Telegram]], Discord).
AWD and its successor organizations have been connected to multiple murders, bomb plots, and violent incidents. Members have been convicted of murders in Virginia (2017), California (2018), and other states. The group's activities directly reflected *Siege*'s prescriptions: individual or small-cell violence designed to destabilize rather than to achieve specific political objectives.
## The Terrorgram Network
*Siege* is a foundational text for the [[Terrorgram Collective]] — the network of Telegram channels that currently functions as the primary online infrastructure for accelerationist neo-Nazi radicalization. Terrorgram channels distribute *Siege* alongside operational content (target selection, weapons instruction, propaganda production). The text has been translated into multiple languages and circulates globally through encrypted messaging platforms.
## KB Significance
**1. The accelerationist turn.** *Siege* is the document that marks the white supremacist movement's strategic pivot from organized politics to accelerationist terrorism. This pivot — from The Turner Diaries' organized revolution to Hunter's lone wolves to Siege's total rejection of political organization — is the most consequential strategic evolution in the far-right violence ecosystem.
**2. The Manson synthesis.** Mason's incorporation of Charles Manson into neo-Nazi ideology is intellectually bizarre but strategically significant — it fuses countercultural nihilism with racial ideology, creating a template that resonates with the alienated young men the movement targets for recruitment.
**3. The internet amplification.** *Siege* spent decades as an obscure underground text before internet distribution — particularly through Atomwaffen's social media presence and the "Read Siege" meme — turned it into the defining text of 21st-century accelerationist neo-Nazism. The book's trajectory illustrates how the internet transforms fringe texts into mass-distributed radicalization tools.
**4. The active threat.** Unlike *The Turner Diaries* (whose author died in 2002), *Siege*-influenced violence is current and ongoing. The Terrorgram network, AWD successor groups, and lone actors inspired by the text represent an active threat assessed by the FBI, DHS, and international law enforcement as among the most dangerous elements of the domestic terrorism landscape.
