# Careless People
Whistleblower memoir by Sarah Wynn-Williams, Facebook's former director of global public policy, chronicling seven years inside the leadership orbit of [[Mark Zuckerberg]], [[Sheryl Sandberg]], and Joel Kaplan. The title is the *Great Gatsby* indictment — "they were careless people... they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money" — applied to [[Meta]]'s executive class.
## The Argument
Wynn-Williams documents Facebook's courtship of authoritarian regimes (including offers of censorship tools in pursuit of China entry), its conduct around the 2016 election, its role in the Rohingya atrocity in Myanmar, and a leadership culture of recklessness, entitlement, and impunity — plus her own account of harassment and retaliation. **The suppression campaign became part of the story**: Meta won an arbitration ruling to gag the author's promotion of the book, which promptly drove it to #1 on the New York Times bestseller list (the Streisand effect in hardcover).
## RWKB Relevance
Primary-source insider record for the [[Meta]] accountability thread — regime courtship, election conduct, and executive impunity from inside the room. The WIRED clip on Meta's pre-publication debunking operation is preserved in sources.
