# Smartphone A **smartphone** is a mobile phone with a general-purpose computer, a touchscreen, an internet connection, and a camera. Apple's iPhone, announced January 9, 2007 and sold from June 29, 2007, and the App Store (July 2008) defined the category; Google's Android became its mass-market counterpart. The smartphone made every user a potential broadcaster and put the algorithmic feed in every pocket.
