# Science Hub Science is the reality layer against which the KB's political analysis operates. The right-wing project intersects with science primarily through denial (climate, vaccines, evolution), weaponization ([[Defense Tech Ecosystem]], surveillance, [[Dual-Use AI]]), defunding ([[NIH]], [[EPA]], NSF budget cuts), and institutional capture (industry-funded research, regulatory science manipulation at the [[FDA]] and [[CDC]]). Understanding the actual disciplinary landscape — what each field studies, what its methods are, what it has established — is prerequisite to identifying where and how political distortion occurs. This hub organizes the vault's science content. Many foundational concepts already live in /[[Mental Models]]/, /Cognitive Biases/, or /Workhorse Heuristics/ — those are cross-linked here, not duplicated. New entries live in discipline-specific subfolders under /Science/. ## How this area is organized Science is organized into seven folders plus a handful of root pages. What is covered here is science where the politics is the point. **Root pages:** [[Science Denial]] (the core denial page) · [[Scientific Method]] · [[Cryptography]] · [[Cybersecurity]] · mental-model forks [[Determinism]] · [[Entropy]] · [[Butterfly Effect]] ### Climate Science The most systematically attacked science of the modern era: the physics deniers must distort, the funded denial network, and the policy-sabotage arc. Hub: [[Quantum Mechanics]] · Pages: [[National Quantum Initiative]] · [[Quantum Computing]] · [[Quantum Mysticism]] · [[Quantum Sensing and Metrology]] · [[The US-China Quantum Race]] ## Cross-Cutting Connections ### Federal Agencies The agencies where science meets policy and politics: - [[NIH]] — biomedical research funding; target of right-wing defunding - [[EPA]] — environmental regulation; climate policy enforcement - [[FDA]] — drug and food safety; regulatory capture - [[CDC]] — public health; pandemic response politicization ### Defense and Dual-Use Where physics, computer science, and engineering become weapons and surveillance: - [[Defense Tech Ecosystem]] — the companies and technologies - [[Dual-Use AI]] — applied CS becoming military capability - [[US Strategic Nuclear Weapons]] — physics → policy ### People Scientists and science-adjacent figures in the vault: - [[Karl Popper]] — philosophy of science and open society - [[Marie Curie]] — radioactivity and the history of women in science - [[Richard Feynman]] — scientific integrity as intellectual framework - [[Robert Sapolsky]] — neuroscience, behavioral biology, determinism ### Institutional Erosion Science institutions are targets of the same entropic forces documented across the KB: - [[Schedule F]] — converting scientific civil servants to political appointees - [[DOGE]] — workforce reductions hitting scientific agencies - [[Authoritarianism]] — regimes that suppress scientific feedback loops ## Statistics Statistical reasoning is the quantitative backbone of all empirical science. The vault has an extensive sub-hub: See **Statistics** — organized into descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, regression, Bayesian methods, data quality, and distributions. Located in /Decision Science/Statistics/. ## Why This Matters for the RWKB Science denial is not a side issue in American conservatism — it is structural. Climate denial protects fossil fuel interests. Vaccine skepticism feeds anti-government sentiment. Evolution rejection anchors religious-right coalition politics. Pandemic misinformation tested and expanded the infrastructure for epistemological warfare that now serves broader authoritarian purposes. At the same time, the right has no difficulty embracing science when it produces weapons, surveillance technology, or profitable applications. The pattern is instrumentalist: science is valid when it serves power, suspect when it constrains it. Understanding the actual science — what it has established, what it hasn't, and how the process works — is prerequisite to analyzing where and why the distortion occurs. That is what this section of the vault provides. ## See Also - [[Decision Science]] — interdisciplinary hub bridging psychology, economics, and epistemology - [[Psychology]] — social science with its own subject hub - [[Economics]] — social science with its own subject hub - [[Defense Tech Ecosystem]] — where physics, CS, and engineering become weapons - [[Cults]] — where social psychology meets coercive control - Statistics — quantitative backbone of empirical science - [[Quantum Mechanics]] — the physics of the very small, and the vocabulary pseudoscience borrows most
