# Tucker Carlson — "extremely primitive" > [!quote] "I love women, but they're extremely primitive, they're basic, they're not that hard to understand." > — Tucker Carlson, call-in to the *Bubba the Love Sponge Show*, October 2007 ## Context One of more than a dozen misogynistic remarks Carlson made as a regular call-in guest on the shock-jock *Bubba the Love Sponge* radio show between 2006 and 2011, transcribed from audio and published by [[Media Matters for America]] in March 2019. In the same run of appearances he told the host that when a feminist says men should be more sensitive, a man should reply that women "just need to be quiet and kind of do what you're told." Confronted in 2019, Carlson declined to apologize and invited critics onto his [[Fox News]] program instead. ## Why this matters A receipt for the open contempt beneath the later, more polished "masculinity crisis" branding Carlson built on prime-time cable (the 2022 *End of Men* documentary). Where Hawley frames the gender war as a wound inflicted on men, this is the flatter, older claim — that women are simply lesser and should defer — that the movement usually keeps offstage. It documents the continuity between casual radio [[Misogyny]] and the organized [[Antifeminism]] Carlson would later mainstream to the largest audience in cable news. ## Verification - **Transcript and audio:** [Media Matters, Mar. 11, 2019](https://www.mediamatters.org/tucker-carlson/unearthed-audio-tucker-carlson-makes-numerous-misogynistic-and-perverted-comments). - **Reporting:** [Washington Post](https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/03/11/tucker-carlson-calls-women-extremely-primitive-newly-surfaced-audio/); [CBS News](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tucker-carlson-bubba-the-love-sponge-women-called-dogs-and-primitive-calls-for-boycott-media-matters-2019-03-11/). - **Status:** Verbatim, undisputed; transcribed from recorded audio, not denied by Carlson. ## Related quotes - [[Josh Hawley - epidemic of men]] — the elite-electoral version of the masculinity-versus-feminism frame. - [[Nick Fuentes - your body my choice]] — the younger, online edge of the same contempt. - Featured in [[Misogyny on the Right]].
