# Deidre Henderson — "another love letter this morning from the DOJ" > [!quote] "Got another love letter this morning from the DOJ sprinkled throughout with threats of criminal prosecution. I'm sure I'm not the only chief election officer of a state who is being targeted for following state and federal laws by resisting DOJ's demands for private voter data that have thus far been ruled illegal by at least a dozen courts. This is truly bizarre behavior by the federal agency that is supposed to be protecting civil rights." > — Deidre Henderson, Lieutenant Governor of Utah, Threads, July 10, 2026 ## Context [[Deidre Henderson]] is the Republican Lieutenant Governor of Utah and, by state law, its **chief election officer**. She posted this in response to the [[Department of Justice]]'s July 2026 letters — sent by Assistant Attorney General [[Harmeet Dhillon]] to election officials in all 50 states and the District of Columbia — demanding private voter data and threatening criminal prosecution for noncompliance (see [[SAVE Act]]). The receipt matters in the KB because the rebuke came from **inside the president's own party**: a Republican state official calling the DOJ's conduct "truly bizarre" and noting that courts had already ruled the data demands illegal "at least a dozen" times. Her office's own audit had found only a "small handful" of noncitizens among more than two million Utah voters, undercutting the fraud rationale for the campaign. Heather Cox Richardson reproduced the post in full in her July 10, 2026 letter.
