# Murthy v. Missouri
Supreme Court decision of June 26, 2024 in the challenge by Missouri, Louisiana and individual plaintiffs to federal officials' contacts with social-media platforms about COVID-19 and election misinformation. The lower courts had issued a sweeping injunction, starting with Judge Terry Doughty's July 4, 2023 order in *Missouri v. Biden*. The Supreme Court reversed 6–3, holding that the plaintiffs lacked standing because they could not tie their own moderated posts to government pressure. The ruling never reached the merits of the "jawboning" theory that the [[Stanford Internet Observatory]] and [[Election Integrity Partnership]] were part of a government censorship apparatus. That theory carried on in *Hines v. Stamos*, which was also dismissed.
