# Yury Chaika **Yury Chaika** was Russia's Prosecutor General from June 2006 to January 2020 — the "Crown prosecutor of Russia" in [[Rob Goldstone]]'s June 2016 email offering the Trump campaign "documents and information that would incriminate Hillary." ## Career Chaika was Russia's Justice Minister from 1999 to 2006 and Prosecutor General from 2006 to 2020, when he was replaced by Igor Krasnov and appointed presidential envoy to the North Caucasus Federal District. *(Current status not verified for 2026.)* ## Navalny's film On December 1, 2015, [[Alexei Navalny]]'s Anti-Corruption Foundation released *Chaika*, a 40-minute investigation alleging that the prosecutor's son owned a Greek hotel and that the ex-wife of a deputy prosecutor had co-owned a business with the wives of members of the Kushchevskaya gang, convicted of 12 murders. ## The Trump Tower connection The *New York Times* reported that [[Natalia Veselnitskaya]]'s memo for the [[Trump Tower Meeting June 2016]] contained passages written verbatim by the Prosecutor General's office, and that she had met the prosecutor general beforehand *[secondhand, single-sourced]*. That office was Chaika's. The U.S. sanctioned Chaika in April 2022, followed by the EU and U.K. ## RWKB angle Chaika's office is what makes the Trump Tower pitch a Russian *state* offer rather than a private one. ## See Also - [[Natalia Veselnitskaya]] - [[Trump Tower Meeting June 2016]]
