# Yulia Navalnaya
Widow of [[Alexei Navalny]], who stepped forward within days of his February 2024 death to lead the Russian opposition-in-exile and continue his fight against the [[Vladimir Putin]] regime. For years a deliberately private figure who supported her husband from the background, she reframed herself almost overnight as the movement's public face — addressing the European Parliament and the Munich Security Conference and meeting Western leaders as the chief representative of anti-Putin Russia.
## Leading from exile
Navalnaya now chairs the **Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK)** and has worked to hold together a famously fractious opposition scattered across exile. In October 2024 she said she intends to stand for president of Russia once Putin is no longer in power. Since late 2025 she has fronted a wave of online videos and, ahead of the **September 2026 State Duma elections**, launched an FBK campaign against United Russia — reviving her husband's "Smart Voting" logic and his framing of the ruling party as "crooks and thieves."
## The limits and the symbolism
Leading an opposition from outside the country, with its infrastructure inside Russia dismantled and its activists jailed or exiled, is a structurally weak position — and the exile opposition remains divided over strategy and leadership. Her value is as much symbolic as operational: she keeps the cost of Putin's repression visible to Western audiences and embodies the through-line from her husband's sacrifice.
