# William Lawrence **William "Will" Lawrence** is the 2026 Democratic nominee for Michigan's 7th District against [[Tom Barrett]]. A Lansing native and grassroots organizer, he co-founded the Sunrise Movement, the Michigan Rent Is Too Damn High Coalition and the Mid-Michigan Tenant Resource Center; he had never held office. He won the August 4, 2026 primary with 43.2% over former Ambassador to Ukraine [[Bridget Brink]] (29.2%) and retired Navy SEAL [[Matt Maasdam]] (27.6%), endorsed by [[Bernie Sanders]] and the Working Families Party and cross-endorsed with Senate nominee [[Abdul El-Sayed]]. His campaign refused corporate PAC money, knocked roughly 100,000 doors and ran on a 12-month federal moratorium on new hyperscale data centers — the first federal-race platform built around AI infrastructure.
