# Walter Isaacson American journalist and biographer, a former head of CNN and *Time* and longtime president of the Aspen Institute, best known for biographies of Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin and Leonardo da Vinci. He spent two years shadowing [[Elon Musk]] for the authorized biography *Elon Musk*, published in September 2023. ## The Sevastopol passage An excerpt published days before the book's release said Musk had "secretly told his engineers to turn off coverage" near Crimea to stop a 2022 Ukrainian sea-drone strike on Russia's fleet at Sevastopol. After Musk disputed it, Isaacson corrected the account: "The Ukrainians THOUGHT coverage was enabled all the way to Crimea, but it was not." Musk had refused to switch it on.
