# Tom Nichols Tom Nichols is a staff writer at The Atlantic and Professor Emeritus of National Security Affairs at the U.S. Naval War College, where he taught for more than 25 years. He is the author of *The Death of Expertise* (2017) and *Our Own Worst Enemy: The Assault from Within on Modern Democracy* (2021), and writes The Atlantic Daily newsletter. ## Relevance to the KB Nichols is one of the more prominent "Never Trump" conservative national-security voices, useful in the knowledge base as an inside critic of the Republican foreign-policy turn under [[Donald Trump]]. His book *The Death of Expertise* is a touchstone for the broader anti-expertise theme that runs through the right-wing information ecosystem. On the [[Trump-Iran MOU 2026]], Nichols framed the agreement as a capitulation dressed as a settlement — "the war Trump did not understand he lost" — and called the day Trump signed it, June 17, 2026, "the weirdest and most astonishing day in US foreign policy in decades." ## See Also - [[Iran War 2026]] - [[Trump-Iran MOU 2026]] - [[Donald Trump]]
