# Thomas W. Jones American financier and former student activist. As a Cornell undergraduate, Jones was a leader of the Afro-American Society during the [[Willard Straight Hall Takeover]] of April 1969 and delivered a militant address over the campus radio station WHCU during the occupation, naming faculty opponents — including [[Walter Berns]] — as racists. Jones went on to a prominent Wall Street career, serving as vice chairman of TIAA-CREF and later as chairman and CEO of Citigroup's Global Investment Management division — a trajectory from armed campus radical to financial-industry executive that is frequently cited, especially on the right, as an irony of the era. He later endowed a Cornell peace prize named for James A. Perkins, the university president who resigned after the takeover, and wrote a 2019 memoir, *From Willard Straight to Wall Street*. --- ## See Also - [[Willard Straight Hall Takeover]] - [[Walter Berns]]
