# Sharron Angle **Sharron Angle** is a Nevada Republican who served in the state Assembly from 1999 to 2007 and became the **Tea Party movement's 2010 nominee for the United States Senate**, running against the sitting Senate Majority Leader, [[Harry Reid]]. Her candidacy is one of the clearest cases in the movement's history of a primary insurgency winning the nomination and then losing a seat the party had been favoured to take. [[Tea Party Express]] backed her in the primary; she defeated the establishment-preferred candidate and then lost the general election to Reid, who had trailed in polling for much of the cycle. The result became the movement's standing internal argument about nominating for ideological fidelity rather than general-election strength — an argument that has recurred in Republican Senate primaries in every cycle since. > [!note] Stub > This page was created on **2026-10-27** because she appeared on a current FEC filing (below) and was > already referenced by several pages here with no page of her own.
