# Shari Redstone **Shari Redstone** (b. April 14, 1954) is the media executive who inherited control of [[National Amusements]] — the family holding company with about 77 percent of the voting stock of [[Paramount Global]] — from her father [[Sumner Redstone]], fought him and his lieutenants for it in the 2016–19 succession wars, reunited CBS and Viacom in December 2019, and then sold the whole of it. The sale is why she is in the vault: the July 2024 agreement with David Ellison's [[Skydance Media]], the FCC's approval on July 24, 2025 — eight days after Paramount paid **$16 million** to settle Donald Trump's lawsuit over a *60 Minutes* interview that no court had found defamatory — and the closing on **August 7, 2025**, which gave National Amusements $2.4 billion and put [[CBS News]] under owners who installed [[Bari Weiss]] as editor-in-chief. ## Why she matters here Redstone is the seller in the [[Media Capture]] story, and the case shows that capture needs no hostile owner: a family that wanted out, a buyer that needed a regulator's signature, and a President who could withhold it, produced a settlement, an ombudsman and a new news division without anyone giving an order. The Gabelli suit over the premium she received above other shareholders and the ongoing sale of National Amusements' theaters (thirteen Showcase Cinemas to Kinepolis, June 2026) are the epilogue. See [[Skydance-Paramount]] for the deal, [[Viacom]] for the corporate history, and the [[Paramount Timeline]] and [[CBS Timeline]] for the sequence. ## See Also - [[Sumner Redstone]] · [[National Amusements]] · [[Paramount Global]] · [[Viacom]] · [[Skydance Media]] · [[Skydance-Paramount]] - [[CBS News]] · [[60 Minutes]] · [[Bari Weiss]] · [[Media Capture]] · [[Paramount Timeline]] · [[CBS Timeline]]
