# Sam Nunberg **Sam Nunberg** (born June 21, 1981) is a [[Roger Stone]] protégé who advised Donald Trump from 2011 and helped lay the groundwork for the 2016 campaign before being pushed out in August 2015. He is remembered for a single day in March 2018 when he publicly refused, then agreed, to comply with a Mueller grand-jury subpoena. ## With Trump Nunberg was fired and rehired several times between 2014 and 2015 and left the campaign in August 2015 amid friction with Corey Lewandowski and controversy over his old social-media posts. In July 2016 Trump sued him for $10 million for breaching a confidentiality agreement; the case settled in August 2016. ## The March 2018 meltdown On March 5, 2018, in a string of TV and press interviews, Nunberg said he would defy a subpoena seeking his communications with Stone, [[Steve Bannon]] and others — "Let him arrest me," he told the *Washington Post* — and asserted that [[Carter Page]] had been "colluding with the Russians." By that evening he told AP he would probably end up cooperating. On March 9 he testified before the grand jury for about six hours, calling it his "duty as an American, whether I like it or not." **Current status:** not verified. ## RWKB angle Nunberg's outburst publicly exposed what the [[Mueller Investigation]] was pursuing in early 2018 — the Stone and Bannon lines — and is a small example of the fired-rehired-sued churn that characterized Trump's pre-2016 political operation. ## See Also - [[Roger Stone]]
