# Reed Hastings
**Reed Hastings** co-founded **Netflix** in 1997, ran it as chief executive for a quarter-century,
and is now its chairman. Since **May 28, 2025** he has also sat on the board of directors of
[[Anthropic]], appointed by the company's Long-Term Benefit Trust alongside [[Dario Amodei]],
Daniela Amodei, Yasmin Razavi and Jay Kreps.
He is one of the largest individual Democratic donors in American technology. In 2024 he gave
**$7 million** to the pro-Harris super PAC Future Forward.

## Why he matters here
The wiki's coverage of AI money runs mostly through the deregulatory side — the
[[Fairshake PAC]] network and [[Leading the Future]]. Hastings is on the other side of that
argument twice over: he sits on the board of the AI company whose public position is that the
technology needs binding rules, and his political giving goes to Democrats. His $1 million into a
Texas Senate race is the second Anthropic-connected seven-figure contribution this site has traced
in 2026, after [[Dario Amodei]]'s $1,000,000.00 to [[Public First]] — and unlike that one, it has
nothing to do with AI policy.
