**Randy Villegas** is a Democratic politician from California's Central Valley and the party's 2026
nominee in [[CA-22-2026]], where he is challenging Republican Rep. [[David Valadao]]. He is 31, teaches
at College of the Sequoias, a community college in Visalia, and has served on the Visalia Unified School
District board. He is the son of Mexican immigrants.
## 2026 campaign
Villegas finished second in the June 2 top-two primary with about 32 percent of the vote, edging out
Assemblymember Jasmeet Bains, a moderate Democrat backed by the national party's campaign committee, for
the second November slot. He is endorsed by [[Bernie Sanders]] and [[Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez]], has
said he takes no corporate PAC money, and supports government-funded universal health care. He opposes
the [[Iran War 2026]] and has made Valadao's 2025 vote for [[Medicaid]] cuts in the
[[Big Beautiful Bill]] the center of his campaign in a district where roughly six in ten residents rely on
Medi-Cal. The [[Congressional Leadership Fund]], the House Republicans' super PAC, has spent heavily
against him in the general election.
