# Ralph Nader Ralph Nader (b. 1934) is an American consumer advocate, lawyer, and perennial third-party presidential candidate. He rose to prominence in the 1960s as a crusader for automobile and product safety (*Unsafe at Any Speed*, 1965) and built a network of public-interest research groups. In American electoral history he is best known as the [[Green Party]] presidential nominee in 2000, when his roughly 97,000 votes in Florida — a state decided by 537 — made him the archetypal **third-party spoiler** in the eyes of Democrats, who blamed him for the election of George W. Bush over Al Gore. He ran again as an independent in 2004 and 2008. > [!note] Stub > Minimum-viable page created to resolve inbound wikilinks. Expand with biography and the spoiler debate.
