# Pedro Pierluisi A New Progressive Party politician who was Puerto Rico's non-voting representative in Congress from 2009 to 2017 and its governor from January 2021 to January 2025. He held the governorship for five days in August 2019, after Ricardo Rosselló resigned, until Puerto Rico's Supreme Court ruled his swearing-in unconstitutional and the office passed to [[Wanda Vázquez Garced]]. He beat her in the August 2020 primary and went on to win the governorship. In the 2022 bribery case, the Justice Department described a "Public Official A" who succeeded Vázquez. It said banker [[Julio Herrera Velutini]] offered that official campaign money in 2021 to end the audit of his bank, and sent $25,000 to a political committee linked to the official. The person passing the offer along was actually working for the FBI. Reporting has identified that official as Pierluisi. He was not charged, and in January 2024 he said he had not been asked to testify. See [[Herrera Velutini Pardon]]. > [!note] Stub > This is a short entry that hasn't been fully written yet.
