# Owen Cook
Owen Cook (b. 1979 in Ontario, Canada), better known by his pickup-artist pseudonym **"RSD Tyler"** (originally "Tyler Durden," a *Fight Club* reference dropped after copyright concerns), is the co-founder of **Real Social Dynamics** (RSD) — the international pickup-artist coaching company that, between roughly 2008 and 2015, was the largest commercial PUA business in the world. Cook is a Project Hollywood alumnus (the LA seduction-school house at the center of [[Neil Strauss]]'s *The Game*) and the figure most directly responsible for industrializing the PUA-coaching market into a global business.
## Background
Born 1979 in Ontario. Entered the seduction community in the early 2000s through the **alt.seduction.fast** newsgroup era. Co-founded **Real Social Dynamics** in 2002 with Nick Kho ("RSD Papa") and a small group of early seduction-community participants. RSD became the dominant commercial PUA coaching brand of the late-2000s and early-2010s era, running global workshops in dozens of countries with a stable of coaches operating under the "RSD" prefix.
## Project Hollywood (2003–2005)
Cook lived at **Project Hollywood** alongside [[Erik von Markovik]] (Mystery), [[Neil Strauss]] (Style), Nick Kho (Papa), and other coaches during the period [[Neil Strauss]] documented in *The Game* (2005). Strauss's account portrays Cook as one of the more ambitious and entrepreneurial members of the household — a portrayal Cook has not strongly disputed and which mapped onto his subsequent decade of building RSD as a business.
## Real Social Dynamics (2002–present, peak ~2008–2015)
RSD operated a stable of named coaches (RSD Tyler, RSD Papa, RSD Julien (Julien Blanc), RSD Madison, RSD Jeffy, RSD Max, etc.) running in-person bootcamps and selling video-course content. At peak the company was running events in dozens of cities across multiple continents and was, by industry estimates, the largest PUA business in the world. RSD's content shifted over time from explicit "pickup tactics" toward more general "self-improvement" and "social skills" branding — a rebrand that mirrored the broader PUA industry's response to growing public scrutiny.
## The 2014 Julien Blanc controversy
In 2014, RSD's coaching brand was severely damaged by the **Julien Blanc controversy**: video clips emerged of Blanc (a Swiss-French RSD coach) describing tactics that critics characterized as advocating sexual assault, and the resulting #TakeDownJulienBlanc campaign led by Australian activist Jenn Li produced visa cancellations in multiple countries (Australia, the UK, Singapore), Eventbrite removing all RSD events from its platform, and venue cancellations across Cook's North American tour dates. Cook, as RSD's principal, was secondarily damaged by the controversy. The PUA industry's mainstream-media respectability never fully recovered from the episode.
## Post-2015 trajectory
Cook has continued to operate the RSD podcast and content business since the 2014–2015 crisis, but at substantially reduced commercial scale. RSD's content has increasingly de-emphasized PUA tactics in favor of broader "self-development" framing, mirroring the manosphere's general drift toward consolidating PUA into [[Red Pill]] / commercial-wave content rather than maintaining a distinct PUA-coaching category. He has not aligned with the contemporary commercial-wave manosphere ([[Andrew Tate]] orbit) in any direct operational way.
## Function in the ecosystem
Cook's role in the [[Manosphere Ecosystem]] map is **the PUA-industry founder** — the figure who built the largest commercial PUA business and demonstrated that paid pickup coaching could scale internationally. RSD's monetization model (named-coach roster, in-person bootcamps, video-course archive, paid community) is structurally a precursor to the contemporary [[Andrew Tate]] / Hustler's University model, even though the personnel and ideological orientation evolved across the gap. He is largely a historical figure for the [[Manosphere Ecosystem]]'s Ring 1a section rather than a current commercial-wave actor.
