# Mona Hanna-Attisha
**STATUS: STUB — expand.**
**Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha** is a pediatrician at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan, whose September 2015 research showing that the proportion of Flint children with elevated blood-lead levels had risen sharply after the water switch forced state officials to abandon their denials and acknowledge the [[Flint water crisis]]. Initially attacked by the state as causing "near hysteria," her data was rapidly vindicated.
## KB significance
Hanna-Attisha is the vault's archetype of the **expert whistleblower** against austerity-driven government denial — the counterpoint to the [[Emergency Manager]] regime and the agencies that dismissed residents' complaints. Together with Virginia Tech water researcher Marc Edwards, her work is the reason the cover-up broke. She later wrote the memoir *What the Eyes Don't See* (2018) and is a recurring voice on [[Environmental Racism]] and children's public health.
