# Melania Trump
First Lady of the United States (2017–21, 2025– ), born Melanija Knavs in 1970 in Novo Mesto, Slovenia; a model from her teens, in New York from 1996, married to [[Donald Trump]] in 2005, mother of [[Barron Trump]]. She is the least public First Lady of the modern era by choice — she spent much of the first term and most of the second away from Washington — and the vault tracks her not for what she has said but for the money that has moved through her name.
## The file
**The memecoin.** On January 19, 2025, the night before the inauguration and two days after [[$TRUMP Memecoin Universe]] launched, the [[$MELANIA Launch]] put a second token on the market. It reached a multi-billion-dollar notional value within hours and then lost most of it; on-chain analysis later showed the token's insiders selling into the retail buying, and the $TRUMP and $MELANIA tokens together became the reference case for a sitting president's family selling a financial product to the public. [[Elizabeth Warren]] called the disclosures "brazen crypto corruption."
**The documentary.** Amazon MGM paid about **$40 million** for *Melania*, a Brett Ratner film released January 29, 2026 — $28 million of it to her directly — and spent a further $35 million marketing it; the President's July 2026 financial disclosure listed a **$10.7 million** licensing fee. The deal was struck while Amazon's founder was seeking federal contracts and while the [[FCC]] and DOJ held the company's fate on other matters; [[Jeff Bezos]] said the film "did very well." It belongs beside the [[Trump Inaugural Fund Self-Dealing Settlement]] and the [[Debanking]] executive order in the [[Trump Family Corruption Ecosystem]] as a transaction in which a counterparty with business before the government paid the family.
**Epstein.** In August 2025 she threatened a $1 billion defamation suit against Hunter Biden over his claim, in an interview, that [[Jeffrey Epstein]] had introduced her to Trump; Biden declined to retract. The [[Trump Family]] page carries the wider Epstein record; this page records only that the threat was made and no suit was filed as of this writing.
**The record on policy.** "Be Best," the first-term initiative on children's online wellbeing, produced the 2018 jacket — "I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?" — worn to a detention center for separated children during the [[Family Separation Policy]], which she said was aimed at the press. In the second term she has been the family's most visible advocate on the Take It Down Act (non-consensual intimate imagery, signed May 2025) and was present at the [[WHCD Shooting]]. [[Pamela Karlan]]'s 2019 impeachment-hearing remark about Barron, and [[Rush Limbaugh]]'s Medal of Freedom at the 2020 State of the Union, are the two moments where she appears in the vault's political record on her own account. [[Ivanka Trump]] and [[Lara Trump]] are the family members whose commercial and political roles the vault treats as comparable; [[Mar-a-Lago]] is where the family's business is done.
**The absence.** On September 4, 2026 a White House official told the *Washington Examiner*, and the *Washington Post* confirmed, that she would not attend the [[Republican Midterm Convention]] in Dallas the following week. No reason was offered and neither she nor her office made an attributable statement. It is consistent with the pattern above rather than a break from it — the vault records it because the event was built entirely around her husband and because she joined at least 45 Republican lawmakers in staying away.
