U.S. District Judge in the single-judge Amarillo division of the Northern District of Texas, appointed by [[Donald Trump]] in 2019. A former religious-liberty litigator, he is the most cited example of conservative **judge-shopping**: because his division is staffed by one judge, plaintiffs can guarantee their case lands before him. His 2023 ruling attempting to revoke the FDA's approval of the abortion drug mifepristone (later rejected by the Supreme Court on standing) made him a national symbol of the practice.
