# Maria Lvova-Belova
Russia's Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights and the official who administered the [[Deportation of Ukrainian Children]] to Russia after the 2022 invasion. She publicly framed the program as a "humanitarian" rescue — claiming hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian children were in Russia — while overseeing their placement in re-education camps, fast-tracked Russian citizenship, and adoption by Russian families; she personally adopted a teenager taken from Mariupol. On March 17, 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for her, alongside [[Vladimir Putin]], for the war crimes of unlawful deportation and transfer of children.
