# Liu Cixin **Stub — to be expanded.** Liu Cixin (b. 1963) is a Chinese science-fiction writer, the most internationally celebrated SF author of his generation, best known for the *Remembrance of Earth's Past* trilogy that opens with *The Three-Body Problem* (2008; English translation 2014, which won the Hugo Award for Best Novel). The trilogy's "dark forest" hypothesis — that the universe is silent because every civilization that reveals itself is destroyed by another — has become a widely cited frame for thinking about existential risk and game-theoretic distrust. The trilogy is the rare SF work to win praise across the elite spectrum: [[Mark Zuckerberg]] featured it in his 2015 "A Year of Books" list, and Barack Obama called it "wildly imaginative" and said its scope made his "day-to-day problems with Congress seem fairly petty." Liu appears in [[Science Fiction and the Tech Elite]] as the contemporary, non-Western entry in the canon and a crossover between tech and political elites. ## See also - [[Science Fiction and the Tech Elite]] — the hub - [[Mark Zuckerberg]] — featured it in his book club
