# Julia Letlow
**Julia Letlow** is the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Louisiana, the candidate [[Donald Trump]] recruited to unseat Sen. [[Bill Cassidy]] for voting to convict him in the 2021 impeachment trial. She did it: Cassidy finished third in the May primary. She has represented Louisiana's 5th District (the Delta and northeast Louisiana) since 2021. See [[LA-Sen-2026]].
## Background
Her husband, Luke Letlow, won the 5th District seat in 2020 and died of COVID-19 complications on December 29, 2020, before taking office. She won the March 20, 2021 special election outright with more than 64%. In the House she sits on Appropriations and on Education and the Workforce.
## Trump's revenge on Cassidy
- **The endorsement.** Trump urged her to run on Truth Social around January 17–18, 2026, and she entered the race on January 20–21. Gov. [[Jeff Landry]] also endorsed her.
- **May 16 closed primary**, the state's first for a Senate race:
| Candidate | % |
|---|---:|
| **Letlow** | **44.8** |
| [[John Fleming]] (state treasurer) | 28.3 |
| Bill Cassidy (incumbent) | 24.8 |
| Mark Spencer | 2.1 |
- **June 27 runoff.** Letlow beat Fleming about **57–43** on turnout of 17–18%. A pro-Letlow super PAC spent $4.1 million in the six weeks before it.
## The general election
Her Democratic opponent is **[[Jamie Davis]]**, a Tensas Parish farmer and the first Black candidate to reach a Louisiana U.S. Senate general election since Reconstruction. Forecasters rated the race Solid or Safe Republican in the spring. Two Democratic-leaning polls since then show it closer than that: Public Policy Polling (July) had Letlow 41, Davis 37; a Davis-campaign poll by Hart (September) had Letlow 48, Davis 44. By August she had raised more than $6 million to his under $2 million.
## The Meta stock trades
On June 29, 2024 Letlow signed a nondisclosure agreement with Laidley LLC, a shell company for [[Meta]]'s data-center project in Richland Parish, in her district. From late 2024 to mid-2025 she bought Meta and Nvidia stock worth $6,000–$90,000 combined, and disclosed the trades on August 11, 2025, past the 45-day deadline of the [[STOCK Act]]. Her office says a broker made the trades without her knowledge.
