# Josh Gottheimer **Josh Gottheimer** is the Democratic U.S. Representative for New Jersey's 5th congressional district, in office since 3 January 2017 and running for re-election on 3 November 2026. He ran for Governor of New Jersey in 2025 and finished fourth in the 10 June Democratic primary with about 11.6% of the vote, behind Mikie Sherrill, Ras Baraka and Steve Fulop. In October 2026 he and the retiring Republican [[Don Bacon]] were reported to be co-leading a bipartisan House pledge to accept the 2026 midterm results and to oppose efforts to block fellow members from being seated when the next Congress convenes on 3 January 2027. The pledge is voluntary and carries no enforcement mechanism — which is the point of it, since nothing in law requires a losing candidate to concede.
