# Jay Jones Attorney General of Virginia, sworn in January 2026 after winning the November 2025 election over Republican incumbent Jason Miyares. A former member of the Virginia House of Delegates from the Norfolk area, his win was part of the Democratic sweep of all three statewide offices alongside Governor [[Abigail Spanberger]] and Lieutenant Governor [[Ghazala Hashmi]]. The closing weeks of his campaign were roiled by the surfacing of violent text messages he had sent years earlier about a Republican legislator, which he apologized for; he won nonetheless in the Democratic-leaning environment of the 2025 cycle. ## Related - [[Abigail Spanberger]] — won the governorship in the same 2025 Democratic sweep - [[State Officials Hub]] · [[2026 Midterms Hub]]
