# Jason Crow
**Jason Crow** has been the Democratic U.S. Representative for Colorado's 6th district (Aurora and the eastern Denver suburbs) since 2019. He is a former Army Ranger who served combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, and sits on the House Intelligence and Armed Services committees. He won the seat in 2018 by beating five-term Republican Mike Coffman, and was one of the House managers in [[Donald Trump]]'s first impeachment trial in 2020.
## The "illegal orders" video
In November 2025 Crow was one of six Democratic lawmakers with military or intelligence backgrounds who appeared in a video reminding service members that they must refuse unlawful orders:
- Senators [[Mark Kelly]] and [[Elissa Slotkin]]
- Representatives Crow, Chrissy Houlahan, Maggie Goodlander and Chris Deluzio
Trump called the video "seditious behavior, punishable by death" (see [[Donald Trump - 2025-11-20 - punishable by death]]).
What followed was an attempt to turn that post into a prosecution:
- **January 2026.** Crow and the others said the Justice Department had contacted them and that federal prosecutors were investigating them over the video. Crow called it an attempt to intimidate critics.
- **February 10, 2026.** A Washington, D.C. grand jury **declined to indict** the lawmakers. Crow said Americans "should be furious that Trump and his goons tried to weaponize our justice system again against his political opponents," and warned there would be "costs."
## Why he matters here
The episode is one of the vault's cleanest examples of the [[Weaponization of Government]] pattern reaching the point of a grand jury, and failing there. It fits alongside the declined or dismissed cases against other Trump critics: the grand jury, not the courts or Congress, was the check that worked. It also matters for the civil-military questions on the vault's domestic-deployment pages. The video's message, that the duty to refuse an unlawful order is real, is ordinary military law. Treating it as sedition was the new part.
