# István Tiborcz [[Viktor Orbán]]'s son-in-law, married to Ráhel Orbán, and the figure at the center of the **Elios affair** — the most documented family-enrichment case of the [[Orbán Kleptocracy]]. Tiborcz co-owned Elios Innovatív Zrt., which between 2011 and 2015 won 35 EU-funded municipal street-lighting contracts worth roughly €40 million. The EU anti-fraud office OLAF investigated the contracts and in 2018 found "serious irregularities" and "conflict of interest," recommending legal action. Hungarian prosecutors ultimately closed the case without charges. Reporting later revealed that Hungarian intelligence had surveilled the OLAF investigators during their visit to Hungary. After exiting Elios, Tiborcz built the BDPST group into a major luxury-hotel and real-estate holding. ## Related - [[Viktor Orbán]] - [[Orbán Kleptocracy]]
