# Hugh Everett American physicist whose 1957 Princeton doctoral thesis proposed the relative-state formulation of [[Quantum Mechanics]], later popularized as the Many-Worlds Interpretation. [[Niels Bohr]] and the Copenhagen establishment dismissed it. Everett left academic physics immediately afterward and spent his career in nuclear weapons targeting analysis for the Pentagon and defense contractors, working on the mathematics of mutual assured destruction — see [[Nuclear Deterrence Theory]]. His interpretation was largely ignored until the 1970s and is now the second most-supported reading of quantum mechanics among foundations researchers. He did not live to see it.
