# George Gascón
**George Gascón** was District Attorney of Los Angeles County from 2020 to 2024 and of San Francisco from 2011 to 2019 — the third figure, with [[Larry Krasner]] and [[Chesa Boudin]], of the [[Progressive Prosecutor]] wave's marquee trio, and the only one of the three to have been a police chief first.
His Los Angeles tenure opened with blanket directives ending cash-bail requests, sentencing enhancements and juvenile transfers to adult court, drew two recall attempts that failed to qualify for the ballot, and ended when he lost re-election in November 2024. Together with the [[Chesa Boudin Recall]] and Krasner's 2025 re-election landslide, his defeat is part of the mixed electoral record that neither side of the reform-prosecutor argument can claim cleanly.
