# Gautier Cole Killian
The quietest member of [[DOGE Ecosystem]]'s young engineer cohort. A McGill University graduate and former Jump Trading engineer, Killian brings a high-frequency trading and crypto background to government work. His academic research focused on Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) — an unusual overlap between crypto ideology and his DOGE government role.
## Background & Career
Graduated high school in 2019 and attended McGill University, earning a Bachelor of Science in math and computer science. His archived McGill profile lists a research focus on "exploring the unique properties of Decentralized Autonomous Organization on online organizations structures" — a crypto/blockchain governance topic.
Worked as an engineer at **Jump Trading**, a Chicago-based firm specializing in high-frequency financial trading and algorithmic strategies. Jump Trading's crypto arm (Jump Crypto) has been a major player in the crypto ecosystem, which adds another dimension to the DOGE–crypto nexus alongside colleagues like [[Gavin Kliger]] (who held Bitcoin and Solana) and [[Marko Elez]].
## DOGE Role
Listed as a DOGE **volunteer** (not a paid employee like some peers). Holds a working DOGE-associated email.
### EPA
Appeared in the Environmental Protection Agency's online directory as a "Federal Detailee" — a designation for someone temporarily working at an agency on assignment from elsewhere in government. Assigned alongside Kathryn Loving and Erica Jehling as part of DOGE's EPA team. NBC reported that Killian was named in connection with DOGE transferring data out of the Department of Labor.
### SSA
Detailed to the Social Security Administration at the end of February 2025. One of at least 10 DOGE operatives placed at SSA, making it one of the most heavily infiltrated agencies.
## The Least Visible Engineer
Killian has the thinnest public profile of any member of the Six Engineers. Unlike [[Luke Farritor]] (Vesuvius Challenge fame), [[Edward Coristine]] (cybercrime community ties), or [[Gavin Kliger]] (ProPublica ethics investigations), Killian has generated relatively little individual media scrutiny. This may reflect his volunteer status or simply a lower profile assignment at EPA and SSA.
