# Gary Wang Gary Wang co-founded [[FTX]] alongside [[Sam Bankman-Fried]], serving as the exchange's chief technology officer. A former Google engineer and MIT graduate, Wang built much of the technical infrastructure that enabled the fraud — including the backend code that allowed Alameda Research to quietly borrow billions in customer deposits. Wang pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges and cooperated extensively with prosecutors. His technical testimony helped establish exactly how the fraud was executed at a systems level. At sentencing in 2024, he received no prison time — the most lenient outcome among FTX's inner circle — a reflection of the degree and value of his cooperation with the government.
