# Errol Musk
**Errol Musk** is the father of [[Elon Musk]]: a South African electromechanical engineer and property developer, a former Pretoria city councillor, and since 2025 a repeat guest of the Kremlin's ideological circuit. He and Elon are largely estranged. He is in the vault as a first-degree family tie and as a public link between the Musk name and Moscow, not as an operational ally of his son.
## Background
He studied at the University of Pretoria and built retail and office complexes. He was elected to the Pretoria city council in 1972 as an independent, joined the Progressive Federal Party in 1980, and served until 1983.
**The emerald mine.** Errol says he held a half share, on a handshake deal, in an emerald mine near Lake Tanganyika in Zambia in the 1980s, and that it collapsed in 1989. Elon denies it: "There's no evidence whatsoever of an 'emerald mine'" (2021), and "I don't have an 'emerald mine,' nor was I given free money" (2020). Snopes found no evidence that mine money funded Elon's companies. No documentary evidence for the mine has been published.
**The estrangement.** Elon has called him "horrible." The *New York Times* reported in 2025 on abuse allegations as a factor in the split, which Errol denies.
## Moscow
- **June 2025.** He spoke at the "Forum of the Future 2050" in Moscow, organized by [[Konstantin Malofeev]]'s Tsargrad with [[Alexander Dugin]], and said "it's hard not to have respect for Mr. Putin." Asked in Moscow about Elon's public break with Trump, he said "Elon made a mistake… he is tired, he is stressed… Trump will prevail."
- **June 2026.** He attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (June 3–6), where he called the EU "fake" and Russia a superpower. On **June 9** he was photographed with [[Tommy Robinson]] in the bar of Moscow's Metropol Hotel. The quote attributed to the pair, "We are going to cause some trouble," was reported by LBC and in a Telegraph headline; Errol later said they were "doing things right." Robinson said "Russia is not the enemy of Britain." See [[Musk UK Campaign]].
**On Britain and South Africa.** He called Keir Starmer's government "totally, totally un-English" (GB News, December 2024; one source). In November 2025 he told South Africa's IOL that "Russia is a first world country… nobody commits crime," and that the ANC is "rotting the country from within." He also said he is in contact with Elon "maybe twice a week."
