# Eric Adams Former Democratic Mayor of New York City (2022–2025), a retired NYPD captain who governed as a moderate on policing and business. His single term was consumed by a federal corruption indictment; the Trump Justice Department's controversial move to drop the case in 2025 — amid allegations of a quid pro quo over immigration cooperation — triggered resignations at DOJ and reshaped his politics. He testified at the March 2025 sanctuary-city mayors hearing, ran for re-election as an independent in 2025, and left office when [[Zohran Mamdani]] was inaugurated on January 1, 2026. Retained here for prior-period and ongoing RWKB relevance.
