# Duncan D. Hunter **Duncan Duane Hunter** is a former Republican U.S. Representative from California (CA-52, 2009–2013; CA-50, 2013–2020) who pleaded guilty in December 2019 to conspiracy to steal campaign funds. He succeeded his father, **Duncan Lee Hunter** (CA congressman 1981–2009), in the same seat; only the son has a criminal record. Between 2009 and 2016 Hunter and his wife converted roughly **$250,000** in campaign funds to personal use — family vacations to Italy and Hawaii, Disneyland tickets, golf outings, groceries, video games, and airline fees to fly the family's pet rabbits — then filed false FEC reports disguising the spending as campaign activity. He was indicted on 60 counts in August 2018, pleaded to one count in December 2019, resigned effective January 13, 2020, and was sentenced in March 2020 to **11 months**. [[Donald Trump]] pardoned him on **December 22, 2020**, before his repeatedly delayed surrender date. He served none of the sentence.
