# Donald Riegle Democratic U.S. Senator from Michigan (1976–1995) and chairman of the Senate Banking Committee. In the [[Keating Five Scandal]], Riegle helped set the April 1987 meetings in motion by suggesting to Federal Home Loan Bank Board chairman Edwin Gray that several senators wanted to discuss the regulatory treatment of [[Charles Keating]]'s [[Lincoln Savings and Loan Association]]. He had received roughly $76,000 in contributions from Keating's associates. The [[Senate Select Committee on Ethics]] found that Riegle had "substantially and improperly interfered" with regulators, but he was not formally sanctioned. He chose not to seek re-election in 1994. > [!note] Stub > Minimum-viable page created to resolve wikilinks from the [[Keating Five Scandal]] build. Expand with his full Senate career.
