# Donald Kagan
American classical historian, best known for his multi-volume history of the Peloponnesian War and for his prominent role in the neoconservative movement (see [[Neoconservatism]]). Kagan spent the bulk of his career at Yale, where he became a leading public defender of the [[Western canon]] and a critic of what he saw as the politicization of the university.
Kagan was a young faculty member at **Cornell University** during the [[Willard Straight Hall Takeover]] and left in its wake, counting himself among the cohort of scholars radicalized against campus leftism by the administration's response. He was later a founding signatory of the **[[Project for the New American Century]]**, and his sons Robert and Frederick Kagan became major figures in foreign-policy hawkery in their own right.
