# Don Berthiaume
**Don R. Berthiaume** is the Inspector General of the [[Department of Justice]], confirmed August 7, 2026 in a 51–47 party-line en bloc vote. A career Office of Inspector General official — and, by his own account to the Senate Judiciary Committee, a former whistleblower while at the DEA — he is a departure from the pattern of Trump IG nominees drawn from prior administration service. He succeeded [[Michael Horowitz]], who left the post June 30, 2025 for the Federal Reserve Board and CFPB OIG. Berthiaume served as acting IG from October 2025 until January 2026, when the limit on acting service ran out; deputy IG William Blier then performed the duties until confirmation. He told senators he aims to complete the OIG's audit of DOJ's compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act within a year. He had earlier worked on the OIG's review of the FBI's FISA applications in the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.
