# Don Bacon **Don Bacon** is the Republican U.S. Representative for Nebraska's 2nd congressional district, in office since 3 January 2017. A retired Air Force brigadier general, he announced on 30 June 2025 that he would not seek re-election in 2026, and his seat — a swing district in and around Omaha — is open for the 3 November 2026 midterms. In October 2026 he and [[Josh Gottheimer]] were reported to be co-leading a bipartisan House pledge to accept the 2026 results and to oppose efforts to block fellow members from being seated on 3 January 2027. Bacon's stated purpose: "it's important to put down a clear, bipartisan marker that we follow state certifications."
