# Marc Andreessen Ideology
Map of [[Marc Andreessen]]'s belief system — the most **published** ideology in the tech right, anchored on the [[Techno-Optimist Manifesto]]. The running developments live on the canonical [[Marc Andreessen]] page and in [[Marc Andreessen News Log]].
> Andreessen supplies the *intellectual cover* for the tech-right program: where [[Peter Thiel Ideology]] is eschatological and [[Curtis Yarvin]] is explicitly anti-democratic, Andreessen frames the same deregulatory agenda as sunny "optimism." The manifesto is the primary text; the donations in [[Marc Andreessen Political Donations]] are it funded.
## The load-bearing beliefs
| Belief | Short form | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Techno-optimism | Technology is the only perpetual source of growth | [[Techno-Optimist Manifesto]] (2023) |
| Markets as optimizer | Free markets are the optimal innovation system | same |
| AI-fear as enemy | AI safety/ethics fears are overblown — even murderous | [[Marc Andreessen - deceleration of AI is a form of murder]] |
| The "enemies list" | Sustainability, "social responsibility," "trust and safety," tech ethics are enemies | [[Marc Andreessen - Techno-Optimist enemies list]] |
| Build, deregulate | Oversight of technology is inherently harmful | "It's Time to Build" (2020) + manifesto |
| Accelerationism | Acceleration is good; deceleration is the threat | adjacent to [[Effective Accelerationism]] |
## The Techno-Optimist Manifesto (the primary text)
Published October 2023. Argues technology is the only perpetual growth source, markets are optimal, and AI fears are overblown — and explicitly **names enemies**: "sustainability," "social responsibility," "trust and safety," "tech ethics." It functions as the intellectual companion to [[Peter Thiel]]'s anti-democratic philosophy and [[Curtis Yarvin]]'s [[Dark Enlightenment]], reframing democratic oversight of technology as the obstacle.
## The core contradiction
The manifesto celebrates anarcho-capitalist, anti-government ideology while a16z's [[American Dynamism]] practice invests heavily in companies that exist **entirely because of Pentagon procurement** — defense and aerospace firms dependent on centralized government contracts. The optimism is selective: maximal deregulation for crypto, maximal government spending for defense. The ideology provides cover for the deregulatory agenda that benefits both halves of the [[Marc Andreessen Holdings]] portfolio simultaneously.
## Function in the network
Andreessen's role is **ideological architecture**, not eschatology or operations:
- Gives the tech-right turn a publishable, optimism-coded manifesto that reads as vision rather than grievance.
- Recodes AI restraint as "a form of murder," foreclosing the safety debate his crypto/AI portfolio would rather avoid.
- Supplies [[DOGE Ecosystem]] its intellectual rationale for gutting the administrative state.
