# Dennis Barrie American museum director (b. 1947). As director of Cincinnati's [[Contemporary Arts Center]], he opened Mapplethorpe's *The Perfect Moment* in April 1990 despite certain prosecution — becoming, with the museum, the first criminal obscenity defendant in American art-museum history — and was acquitted on all counts that October ([[Cincinnati Mapplethorpe Obscenity Trial]]). The standing example of institutional spine against culture-war intimidation, against the Corcoran's cautionary opposite.
