# Dean Logan **Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk for Los Angeles County** — the official who runs elections in the largest local election jurisdiction in the United States. He came to the post from Washington State, where he was King County's director of records, elections and licensing services, the state elections director, and before that an elected county clerk and chief deputy auditor in Kitsap County. He is in the wiki because of October 2026. The Justice Department demanded his office review a password-protected thumb drive it said identified 20,000 noncitizens who had been sent mail ballots, on a 48-hour deadline. His office declined. Per [[Heather Cox Richardson]]'s letter of October 16 relaying CBS News, he said his office would not open the drive "because doing so would conflict with established data privacy and information security protocols," and added that "[f]ederal and state laws are clear on how voter eligibility is established—and any action to remove a voter from eligibility must be based on verifiable information, not assertions of unconfirmed data matching." The Justice Department's prosecution-threat letter of October 16 was copied to him. See [[DOJ California Noncitizen Ballot Litigation 2026]]. > [!note] Short entry > This page covers his role in the October 2026 federal ballot dispute. The year he took the Los Angeles County post is not stated on the county's own biography page, and his earlier record there is not covered yet. ## See Also - [[DOJ California Noncitizen Ballot Litigation 2026]] — why this page exists - [[Shirley Weber]] — California's chief elections officer - [[Trent McCotter]] — the acting deputy attorney general who signed the prosecution-threat letter - [[Mail-in Voting]] · [[Voter Suppression]]
